I lived through Twin Peaks the first time and trusted David Lynch to the soles of my shoes, but honestly, and this is important, since they never planned to succeed, they ended up with a sort of Lost-y mess.
The show subverted your ideas about what things are supposed to mean, but when you know that that was not an auteur’s decision, but a sort of ¯_(ツ)_/¯, it’s not nearly as impressive.
And also, everything about it seems to hate young women. Literally everything. It’s uncomfortable. But since David Lynch never explains anything, all we’re left with is this Dadaist take on a crime drama.
What you can take away from it, as a writer, is ALWAYS PLAN TO SUCCEED.
