There are some reasons to set your scene in a restaurant, coffee shop or cafe.

So if you are thinking of setting your scene in an eatery where some people can sit and talk and maybe there’s a cameo for a comedic waiter, you can improve the quality of your scenework by choosing a unique or unexpected place for the action to occur.

This request comes from reading hundreds of scripts in which several going out for lunch to talk about the plot scenes accomplish nothing cinematic.

Thank you for your kind attention.

Good food for thought. These scenes can totally be lazy go-tos when writing a script. There are certainly a couple of them in my feature (in post). Hell, we ended up cutting one, because it didn’t really accomplish much for the story.

Anyway, I think we can all find ourselves doing stuff like this and we should try and catch ourselves and find new ways to accomplish the same thing or at least spice up what we’re trying to do.
