The lovely thing about the written word is that it has an audience. The audience could be just you, it could be your friends, it could be your professor, and it could be millions of people.
So be aware of your audience, and what you want to inspire in the audience.
Do you want to make them think? Write controversially.
Do you want to express your emotions? Write them down.
Do you want to get a good grade? Write what your professor wants to read.
Do you want to make millions? Write what will conventionally sell.
Want to get approved for that grant? Write what the money holders are interested in.
Do you want to get a job? Write what they’re looking for.
