One drawback of learning a huge amount of your vocabulary through books and reading online is that you’re routinely laughed at because that word you thought was pronounced that way? Is not pronounced even remotely like that.
The most reason was faux. I pronounced it the way it looked to me when I was talking to mom and she cracked up.
My family still brings up my mispronunciation of maniacal.
*sighs heavily* I still cringe over “chaos”.
