After seeing your comments about InkTip, I’m curious if you think the same thing about The Black List’s website/script hosting service? I’m on the fence about it, myself. They seem to have some credibility, as an offshoot of The Black List’s annual “popular screenplays” list, and they have some high level partnerships. On the other hand, I know a couple shitty writers (repped) who have hosted their scripts on the site and ended up with high rankings or on the “Top Scripts” page. Thoughts?

writerlyn: For the Black List, I generally think “wait for it”. Because it has enough brand name recognition that it can become really really good. But it sure as heck isn’t there yet.

CLONE SCRIPTS: THE W.E.S.

I love men. I love their gorgeous big hands and their strong shoulders and their smoldery smiles. I love it when they fight over me and offer me the moon on a string and rescue me and helplessly adore me… Oh, wait. Just up to the smoldery smiles. After that it’s a romance novel, which…

You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence. Octavia E. Butler (via wordpainting) Here’s that quote I was talking about. (via evelynnalfred)

THE GUY THINGS HAPPEN TO

I don’t know where it comes from, but it’s a clone trait in a bad script, so be vigilant in your art. This person, ostensibly the center of the script, whose story it is, is no one special, has a job, some friends, family, things they like to do. And then something happens, and the…

VISUALLY INTRODUCING A CHARACTER

Because of Tumblr, I started watching Hannibal and inadvertently fell wildly in love with Mads Mikkelsen’s voice. That’s not really an unusual thing for me, btw. So I went over to Netflix to check out some Danish films, and found a perfect visual character intro for you in the first ten seconds of Adam’s Apples….
