I’m not prejudiced against young, fit, good-looking white people, they have their own set of specialized problems I can’t relate to, so I wouldn’t presume. But they are only one subset of people.
The joy of writing spec scripts for competitions is that you’re not bound by the market. It’s not a prize for the script that’s easiest to sell. Basically, it’s a writing sample. So dream big and actually do a damn thing to change the standard while you’re at it.
Readers love things we’ve never read before, and if there’s one thing we don’t read nearly enough, it’s characters that can’t be cast out of a Vermont ski academy.
