“First off, there are usually 5 acts in a one hour television pilot. A teaser and 4 acts (these usually coincide with commercial breaks). The teaser tends to be the shortest of the acts though some, like Lost’s are sometimes upwards of 15 pages (they labeled their teasers as Act One). These act breaks are labeled at the beginning and end of each act. You’ll note though that pilots for subscription cable television don’t necessarily use acts like this because there are no commercial breaks (Mad Men’s pilot does not have act breaks). Pilots typically run about 60 pages in length. Other than the labeling of acts and page length, one hour pilot formatting is the same as feature screenplay formatting.”
