I’ve been following you for ages and I want to tell you your blog is great. I really enjoy your posts about the industry. I really respect your opinion so I wanted to ask if you think it’s worth trying to be a runner if you want to be a screenwriter? Or is that only for people who want to work in production? Also, are there any tumblr blogs you think it’s worth following? Thankyou!

I think it’s absolutely worth it because you learn stuff as a runner that can only help you as a screenwriter.

Actually I think it’s worth it for screenwriters to work on all aspects of the industry, just to get a perspective in how the words you put on page would be made into a movie.  I actively encourage writers to be PAs, Runners, DPs, ADs, anything they can get their hands on. I know several screenwriters who’ve actually found their careers by doing this.

For tumblr blogs, I always recommend lifeascaty and annerocious for screenwriting stuff.  I’ve also recently found ireadthesmallprint and script-supervisor who are also amazing. 

If you want more good blogs, hang around the tags.  You can find all sorts in the film industry tags, the casting tags, and the screenwriting tags.
