I don’t want to embarrass anyone, but It has to be said.

Some scripts reek of “Superhero Me”.

Not that the protag has super powers, but they’re quick with a comeback, they don’t make mistakes and improbably attractive people hit on them a lot.

If everyone in your script admires how cool the protag is, except the sneering bully who the protag eventually humiliates, then you might have a wish fulfillment script, and I promise it’s not as dramatic as you think.

The deck should always be stacked against the protag, and the drama happens when it looks like there’s no way they will ever be able to accomplish the goal.

They have to get knocked all the way down so they can fight their way back up again. That never happens in wish SuperMe scripts. A sympathetic protag is sympathetic because they have to struggle.

Writer ego scripts are self-fanfic. Would you care about fanfic a pharmaceutical salesperson wrote about being at a pool party surrounded by movie stars hitting on them?

I’m guessing no.
