oh um gosh good luck that sounds very exciting! I’d just say take advantage of your professor and his/her experience and availability, take in all the scripts that you can because you’re going to learn a lot from , and stick to screenplay structure, because there’s a reason it’s stayed around so long and that reason is that it works.
Learn how to give good notes and give them every time. Don’t be that guy who takes all the notes he can get and comments “good script but the ending is weird” like that is going to cut it in terms of constructive critiques.
Develop your own ideas as to what the “best” “formative” “classic,” etc films are because they’re going to tell you that Citizen Kane is ~the best movie ever made~ and tbh I’m a fan of Guardians of the Galaxy not Kane.
And you’ve probably heard this one, but get those first drafts out no matter what it takes, because you can’t fix stuff that’s not written. With this, stay up on deadlines because nothing is more stressful than writing a script at like 3 in the morning a few hours before it’s due!
i actually speak from experiencewith this oneoh and I’m basically not the right person to ask because I’ve never had a formal screenwriting class in my life so you should definitely try writerlyn or annerocious or lifeascaty(and her script collection!) or thisoldbitch or anyone else with more experience with screenwriting in a class setting.
Hope this helps! & have fun!
