So I decided to read and remark upon all the awards scripts that are going around in Caty’s excellent post.
Grandma is the perfect indie. Focused, crackling, cheap to make, plum roles, juicy scenework. Its 88 pages go roaring by in a jetstream of carefully layered and unsentimental drama.
It handles its backstory with a light touch, propels its protagonist forward through a series of organic obstacles and pays off all its economically established unfinished business.
Great example of how to finish big in a competition.
