I want to start a movie review blog but I can’t afford to go see a ton of new movies in theaters. Do you think a movie review blog can still be successful even if it reviews mostly older movies instead of brand new ones?
Absolutely, in fact when I interned at a newspaper back in the day, they didn’t want to let me do movie reviews, but I talked my way into doing “DVD reviews” of non-new releases. (I think my first one was the Coens’ Blood Simple.) And personally today I read more about older films than I do new releases. I mean, you sometimes have more options when you write about classics, because you can get into historical context, the subsequent influence of the classic, etc. So good luck, you’ll do great 🙂
